The Budos Band, III. The music is as badass as the cover suggests.
Guess what? Mojo Magazine is putting The Beatles on the cover again. Bet you didn’t see that coming. There’s a bit more to it this time around, though. The magazine asked 12 different bands to contribute to its first-ever vinyl release: Let It Be Revisited. Each band covers one of the album’s cuts, which have been assembled in the same order front to back as The Beatles’ original. Has Beatlemania ever really died?
“Songs of my youth” selection of the day: Girls Against Boys, “She’s Lost Control” (Joy Division cover)
Norma Fraser, “First Cut is the Deepest”
Jerry Jones, “Still Water” (find it on Studio One Soul)
Forgive the sad medium, love the wonderful song.
Black Dub, “I believe in you” (live in-studio performance)
Mixing jazz, rock and reggae sounds like a bad idea. In Daniel Lanois’ hands, though, such an unruly concoction actually seems to work - and well. At least judging by this song by Black Dub, Lanois’ new-ish project with Trixie Whitley, Brian Blade and Daryl Johnson.
